TESTING
License Testing Services
Parkside Driving School is an approved contractor to deliver the Washington state knowledge and skills exams. We include these testing services in the tuition cost of our traffic safety course, but the tests are also available to most people preparing to obtain a first Washington driver license.
Our testing services are scheduled by appointment at our Tri-Cities and Yakima locations. Please call us to setup an appointment.
Here are some things you will need to bring to your testing appointment:
Photo ID
If you have a Washington photo permit or ID, that will work. If not, you will need to bring something that identifies you. The DOL website has more information about all the different forms of identification that are acceptable. Parkside Driving School has to follow those same requirements.
Washington WDL Number
If you have a Washington permit or ID, this number is on it. If you have not been issued a Washington permit, ID, or driver license then you need to go to the DOL website and create a License Express account. Once created, login to your account and your WDL number will be listed there.
Proof of Age Eligibility
Every time to come to Parkside Driving School for a testing appointment, we are required to verify your age before administering the test. If you have a Washington permit, ID or license, that will work. Otherwise, the DOL website has information on other acceptable ways to provide proof of age.
To be eligible to take the knowledge exam, you either must be 15 years old and have completed a traffic safety course, or you must be 15 1/2 years old.
To be eligible to take the skills exam, you either must be 15 years old and have completed a traffic safety course and passed the state knowledge exam, or you must be 18 years old and passed the state knowledge exam.
Computerized Knowledge Exam
The state of Washington released an electronic version of the knowledge exam for schools to administer in 2023. The questions on the electronic test are the same as on the paper version, but there are advantages to the electronic version. If you choose to take the electronic test, you have the option to have the questions played aloud through headphones, and some of the questions are accompanied by photos which can help the question make sense.
To take the electronic knowledge exam, you MUST have an active DOL License Express account. Make sure you can login to your account, and then come to the test with your username and password. You will login to a Parkside testing computer and take the exam.
The passing rate for people taking the electronic test is around 10% better than those taking it on paper. You want to be taking this test electonically!!!
Parkside has created a Knowledge Exam video to help.
Parkside has also created a Practice Test you can use to prepare for the test.
